For Students and Families

Selecting a school is both more exciting and more challenging in the new education landscape of New Orleans. Choosing the right school for your child can be a challenging process. Here are a few tips:

We believe a key part of choosing a new school is going to see it.  There’s simply no substitute. You can gravitate to the school closest to your home –– or look at what fit is best for your child. To find that fit, nothing can replace a visit. FirstLine Schools hold scheduled information sessions to allow parents of prospective students to visit Ashe, Dibert, Green or Langston Hughes and understand our educational approach firsthand. We strongly encourage you to do this if you’re thinking about enrolling your child with us.

Look at our classrooms – do you see and feel what you want for your child in this building? What about the neighborhood? Explore our special programs for their appeal to your child.

How personal is the school that you are considering for your child? Here’s an example from FirstLine Schools. When a student is absent, someone calls that student’s house. Kids know that they will get a call every day when they’re not in school. We do not allow any child to fall through the cracks at FirstLine Schools.

Your child is our focus. We have a sustainable, indigenous approach and proven success – after all, we’ve been offering New Orleans children a state-of-the-art education in an open-admission public school environment for almost 20 years.

If you are the parent of a prospective student and wish to tour one of our schools, please call the office numbers for Ashe (504-897-5359), Dibert (504-373-6205), Green (504-304-3532) or Langston Hughes (504-373-6251).
