As part of our comprehensive enrichment program, FirstLine offers a variety of sports and physical activities for our students including: baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and lacross. Students compete in these sports with other schools in 5th through 8th grades, learning the value of teamwork, setting and achieving personal goals, and good sportsmanship.

Four years ago 7% of Green School’s 8th graders passed the math portion of the LEAP test. This year 72% passed, which was 13% above the state average. This dramatic improvement came from a rigorous math program that incorporates a variety of math games and hands-on activities to improve students' problem solving and conceptual understanding. Help us continue to make dramatic gains in math!

Science kits make learning immediate and teach students to form and test hypotheses, measure the results, and draw conclusions. Whether it’s dissecting a frog or experimenting with chemistry, our science classes combine real world activities with concepts and ideas studied in books. A gift of science lab equipment will help support additional science activities in our schools.

New Orleans has a tremendous musical heritage. We are beginning to develop music programs that range from choir to traditional band to African drumming. From the djun-jun to the sousaphone, we aim to put instruments in students' hands so they can take them home and practice, joining a long line of New Orleans' musical greats.

Technology is not an end in itself, but it can be a tremendous tool for creative instruction and data-driven analysis. Laptops, flip camcorders, interactive whiteboards, and educational software can support our teachers becoming even more effective in their work.

At the end of each year our older students travel away from the school on trips to campgrounds and retreat centers to learn team-building skills, overcome individual and team challenges, set personal goals for the coming year, and celebrate the progress they have made.
