Grade Level Experiences

Each grade level has a year-long course of activities inside and outside of the core classes that nurture students’ awareness of the possibilities in life, the pathways they need to go down to achieve their dreams, and awareness of their city.  Grade level experiences include field trips, overnight retreats, guest speakers, and special activities such as Outreach’s Power Ties, a series of workshops, career fair, and job shadowing experiences around the city to develop career awareness and job skills.

Learning Outside the Classroom

Field trips connected with classroom activities range from discovering whether Jackson Square is really square (it isn’t – our math students measured it to prove it’s a rectangle) to performing Greek theatre at the City Park Peristyle with the social studies and language arts classes. Dressed in togas, students acted out Greek mythology in an infomercial. Museums, history tours, and science expeditions in a wilderness area are just a few of the places students encounter during their time at FirstLine.
