Education Principles

As an organization, FirstLine is focused on three things:

  • creating schools with high student achievement and preparing students for college even before they reach high school.
  • offering students a wide variety of experiences that nurture their social and cultural development.
  • systematically developing our teachers and staff members to their fullest professional potential.

This is where we’re going with our work.  We're not there yet, but we will maintain our focus and arrive at these goals.

Mapping Success

FirstLine team members are committed to providing an outstanding education to our students. We approach this goal with a shared set of principles that, we believe, create an academically engaging school where all students can thrive. They include:

School Culture

  • High expectations for achievement and behavior
  • Calm orderly culture where teaching, learning, and healthy relationships can thrive
  • Aspirational identity and motivational environment
  • Partnership with parents
  • Time matters

Teaching and Learning

  • Skillful instruction based on a shared vision of effective teaching
  • Aligned curriculum with clear learning objectives for each unit
  • Systematic use of formative assessment data
  • Layers of learning interventions
  • Rigorous and engaging curriculum
  • Literacy and numeracy as priorities

These schools are set to close the achievement gap. Every moment you aren’t teaching, the gap will stay or widen.
